  • For Never & Always

Fake Dating, Mythology, & More (2)

For Never & Alwaysby Helena Greer is $3.99! Several of us were excited for this one when it came out! It’s book two in the Carrigan’s Christmasland series and book three is out this month.

One surprise inheritance, two best friends (now bitter exes), and three months to prove he loves her, forever and always, in this swoony second-chance romance for fans of Alexandria Bellefleur and Ashley Herring Blake.

Hannah Rosenstein should be happy: after a lonely childhood of traipsing all over the world, she finally has a home as the co-owner of destination inn Carrigan’s All Year. But her thoughts keep coming back to Levi “Blue” Matthews: her first love, worst heartbreak, and now, thanks to her great-aunt’s meddling will, absentee business partner.

When Levi left Carrigan’s, he had good intentions. As the queer son of the inn’s cook and groundskeeper, he never quite fit in their small town and desperately wanted to prove himself. Now that he’s a celebrity chef, he’s ready to come home and make amends. Only his return goes nothing like he planned: his family’s angry with him, his best friend is dating his nemesis, and Hannah just wants him to leave. Again.

Levi sees his chance when a VIP bride agrees to book Carrigan’s—if he’s the chef. He’ll happily cook for the wedding, and in exchange, Hannah will give him five dates to win her back. Only Hannah doesn’t trust this new Levi, and Levi’s coming to realize Hannah’s grown too. But if they find the courage to learn from the past . . . they just might discover the love of your life is worth waiting for.

  • Accidentally Engaged

Fake Dating, Mythology, & More (6)

RECOMMENDED: Accidentally Engagedby Farah Heron is $2.99!Kiki reviewed this one and gave it an A-:

I cannot emphasize enough how hungry this book will make you.

Accidentally Engaged might be my top pick for “don’t read while hungry.” Between our heroine Reena’s bread baking (there’s rye, there’s challah, there’s an ongoing battle with a sourdough starter) and her Indian and East African cooking, I was craving a feast pretty much the whole time I was reading this book.

Reena Manji doesn’t love her career, her single status, and most of all, her family inserting themselves into every detail of her life. But when caring for her precious sourdough starters, Reena can drown it all out. At least until her father moves his newest employee across the hall–with hopes that Reena will marry him.

But Nadim’s not like the other Muslim bachelors-du-jourthat her parents have dug up. If the Captain America body and the British accent weren’t enough, the man appears to love eating her bread creations as much as she loves making them. She sure as hell would nevermarrya man who works for her father, but friendship with a neighbor is okay, right? And when Reena’s career takes a nosedive, Nadim happily agrees to fake an engagement so they can enter a couples video cooking contest to win the artisan bread course of her dreams.

As cooking at home together brings them closer, things turn physical, but Reena isn’t worried. She knows Nadim is keeping secrets, but it’s fine— secrets are always on the menu where her family is concerned. And her heart is protected… she’s notmarryingthe man. But even secrets kept for self preservation have a way of getting out, especially when meddling parents and gossiping families are involved.

  • Neon Gods

Fake Dating, Mythology, & More (11)

Neon Gods by Katee Robert is $1.99! This is the first book in the Dark Olympus series and it looks like several of the books in these series are also on sale. If there are any gaps in your collection, maybe give the sales a peek.

He was supposed to be a myth.
But from the moment I crossed the River Styx and fell under his dark spell…
    …he was, quite simply, mine.

Society darling Persephone Dimitriou plans to flee the ultra-modern city of Olympus and start over far from the backstabbing politics of the Thirteen Houses. But all that’s ripped away when her mother ambushes her with an engagement to Zeus, the dangerous power behind their glittering city’s dark facade.

With no options left, Persephone flees to the forbidden undercity and makes a devil’s bargain with a man she once believed a myth…a man who awakens her to a world she never knew existed.

Hades has spent his life in the shadows, and he has no intention of stepping into the light. But when he finds that Persephone can offer a little slice of the revenge he’s spent years craving, it’s all the excuse he needs to help her—for a price. Yet every breathless night spent tangled together has given Hades a taste for Persephone, and he’ll go to war with Olympus itself to keep her close…

A modern retelling of Hades and Persephone that’s as sinful as it is sweet.

  • Astrid Parker Doesn’t Fail

Fake Dating, Mythology, & More (15)

Astrid Parker Doesn’t Fail by Ashley Herring Blake is $1.99! This is book two in theBright Fallsseries; most of the books (if not all of them) have been mentioned in Hide Your Wallet. Do you have a favorite book in the series?

An interior designer learns to rebuild her love life from the ground up with zero blueprints in this new romantic comedy by Ashley Herring Blake, author of Delilah Green Doesn’t Care.

For Astrid Parker, failure is unacceptable. Ever since she broke up with her fiancé a year ago, she’s been focused on her career—her friends might say she’s obsessed, but she’s just driven. When Pru Everwood asks her to be the designer for the Everwood Inn’s renovation that will be broadcasted on a popular home improvement show, Innside America, Astrid knows this is the answer to everything that is wrong with her life. It’ll be the perfect distraction from her failed love life, and her perpetually displeased mother might finally give her nod of approval.

However, Astrid never planned on Jordan Everwood, Pru’s granddaughter and lead carpenter for the inn’s renovation, who despises every modern design decision Astrid makes. Jordan is determined to preserve the history of her family’s inn, particularly as the rest of her life is in shambles. When that determination turns into a little light sabotage, ruffling Astrid’s perfect little feathers, the showrunners ask them to play up the tension. But somewhere along the way, their dislike for each other turns into something quite different, and Astrid must decide what success truly means. Is she going to pursue the life that she’s expected to lead, or the one she wants?

I really liked Accidentally Engaged. I liked it so much that I’ve tried reading her other books but they haven’t worked for me.

FAQs

What does fake dating trope say about you? ›

Fake Dating

Readers are drawn to the easy comfort and fulfillment without the potential pitfalls—something we rarely get in real life. This trope also addresses a lot of the societal pressures on people who are single, offering a narrative escape from societal expectations and judgment.

What does fake dating mean in a book? ›

The fake relationship trope—pretend lovers who wind up falling in love—is a beloved rom-com staple, equally at home in '90s movies like While You Were Sleeping and recent books including Ali Hazelwood's The Love Hypothesis. “For as silly as it is, it's such a hopeful trope,” says author K.J. Micciche.

What are the signs of a fake dating profile? ›

Lack of detail could be a sign of a fake profile.

Fake profiles and scammers will most likely leave parts of their profiles blank, claiming they forgot to fill them in or didn't have time to. If their name, age, and location are the only thing filled out, chances are they're fake.

Why do people like fake dating tropes? ›

The plot appeal of a fake dating romance is the drama or shenanigans that result from the main characters twisting themselves into pretzels to keep up the pretense. But the emotional satisfaction comes from watching two people convinced they are completely wrong for each other discover that they're so, so right.

What is the point of fake dating? ›

Some people do it to scam others out of money. They create a profile, build a relationship with someone, and then ask for money. Others do it to boost their ego. They create a profile with photos that make them look much more attractive than they really are and then message people they know they will never meet.

What is a trope in dating? ›

In romance, tropes are things like star-crossed lovers, there's only one bed, and friends to lovers. Yes, you've seen all those things before, but that's on purpose. Those are the popular romance tropes that define the genre. And all genre fiction has them—the chosen one is a popular fantasy trope, for example.

Why would someone make a fake dating profile of me? ›

These profiles are created by people who are not interested in dating but are looking to scam others out of their money or boost their own ego.

What to do if someone has made a fake dating profile of you? ›

Use platform reporting tools to request that profiles are taken down. Speak to the police if you think a crime such as fraud, stalking or harassment has taken place, and take screenshots of messages or false accounts as evidence.

What does enemies-to-lovers trope say about you? ›

enemies-to-lovers

You like banter or play-fighting and long for the tension in a relationship. You never want things to get boring. You also have a sensitive side though… if this trope speaks to you, you most likely long for someone to love you despite your faults.
